Preserve.

Educate.

Inspire.

Advocate.

We are on a mission to preserve biological and cultural diversity, educate and inspire food advocacy for policy change to create a more equitable food future.

We combine the joy of food with the pursuit of justice. This work is fueled by our passionate volunteer-led chapters, partners and our national membership. As a national nonprofit, we’re part of a global movement, advocating for good, clean and fair food for all.

Our History

More than 30 years ago, people gathered in Rome to protest a fast food franchise that was opening at the base of the iconic Spanish Steps. Instead of throwing rocks and yelling, activists brought in a big bowl of penne pasta and shared it with the crowd, chanting, “We don’t want fast food. We want Slow Food!”

The protest was the birth of the Slow Food movement. Today, we’re in more than 160 countries! Slow Food USA was established 25 years ago and has grown to more than 80 chapters nationwide.
